Living on Villas Xichú Time

I arrived from a land of snow and cold and icy winds,
Where the trees are now bare skeletons of their former selves,
Where brown and gray and white dominate a world almost devoid of color.

Here in Villas Xichú, spring is awakening,
Rubbing her sleepy eyes, stretching her arms and yawning.
Every day that passes brings more leaves, more flowers, more color:
An explosion of greens, reds, yellows and oranges,
Under azure blue skies sprinkled with cotton-candy clouds.
Each day is subtly warmer and each night less cool.

My perplexed being was transported from the depths of winter
To this spring-like paradise in a matter of hours in the sterile ambience of a plane.
I have entered another world.
My calendar has flipped forward several months.
I feel the need for another way to measure time,
Another clock.

On Villas Xichú time:
I first awaken when the rooster next door announces the day.

I leave my bed when I tire of trying to solve the jigsaw puzzle of
intertwined bricks of the boveda ceiling above me.

I swim when the sun shimmering off the water of the pool invites me to come in.

I know that is time to go in when the pool is covered in shadows and 
the afternoon winds begin to blow.

I eat when I am hungry no matter the hour.

In the evening, I leave my front row balcony seat at the cricket concert 
when the warmth of my bed calls to me.

I sleep, while outside my window millions of stars twinkle in the crisp night air,
as if in answer to the flickering lights of the city in the valley below.

We have only one complaint about Villas Xichu. There is something wrong with clocks and calendars. Time passes much to quickly in this beautiful corner of the world. We thoroughly enjoyed the weather, the view of SMA from the balcony, the garden , the pool- and most of all the people. Tomasita spoiled us and our neighbors were all such nice people. There is truly a sense of community here in Villas-Xichu. Thank you so much for opening the gates of Villas Xichu to us. It is an experience that neither of us will ever forget.
