The Insider's Guide to San Miguel....

is a comprehensive ready reference of where to find places or things in San Miguel, designed for the traveler as well as residents. Also includes the neighboring towns of Dolores Hidalgo and Guanajuato. Written and continually updated by a long-time resident of Mexico.

About the Author...

The author grew up outside of Buffalo in Snyder, New York. In 1959 he graduated from Bowling Green State University with a degree in business administration and went on to serve as a lieutenant with the US Navy in the Far East. Upon leaving active service, the author lived and worked in the Philippines, Hong Kong, Korea, and Japan. While living in Asia, he was involved in a similar publication, The Gentleman's Guide to Hong Kong. Returning to the USA Dean lived in Honolulu, Torrance, California, and Amherst, Massachusetts while raising his son Anil.

Dean first set foot in San Miguel de Allende, arriving by train from Mexico City, in November 1990. After a five-month stay, the author returned once more for a two-month visit before becoming a permanent resident of Mexico in September 1993. The author has lived in San Miguel every month of the year, gaining a real feel for and understanding of the town and people. He can often be seen with backpack and sombrero on the streets of San Miguel gathering material for the next edition. Don't hesitate to introduce yourself and get your book autographed.

Living San Miguel Authors
(Archie Dean and Friends)

Mutual Admiration - Each author holds the other's book. Tony Cohan (on the left), author of On Mexican Time, is a part-time resident of San Miguel, coming from Los Angeles. On Mexican Time, a national best seller, gives it's readers a great feel for life in San Miguel and the re-construction of an old house.

Six year old Pricella, a regular in San Miguel's Jardin, meets noted author and San Miguel resident, Joseph Persico. Mr. Persico, on the left, is best known for his biography of our new Secretary of State, Colin Powell, the #1 New York Times Bestseller, My American Journey. Archie and Joe are both from New York State and served as officers in the US Navy.
